Initially created as Lafé / Baleng rural Council by decree n ° 93/321 of 11/25/1993, this Municipality was transformed into Bafoussam 2 Council by decree N° 2007/117 of 04/24/2007. Another decree of January 17, 2008 establishes it as the Bafoussam II Council, following the creation of the Bafoussam Urban Community.
The population of Bafoussam II Council is estimated at around 149,662 inhabitants. The commune is made up of 71 villages and neighborhoods divided into 3 groups (Baleng, Bapi and Bandeng) and also Bororo populations. Oral history has it that the Baleng people, renowned for their ability to face dangers, were the first Bamileke to cross the Noun river, a fast-flowing river infested with crocodiles and hippos. The other sociological components of the Council are the Bassa, Ewondo, Béti, all the ethnic groups of Cameroon and even foreigners.
The present municipal executive took office in February 2020. It is headed by Mr. KENGNI KOUT Levis Dieudonné standing as Lord Mayor. He is assisted by Mr KONGNE Paul (1st Deputy Mayor), Mr PENKA Michel Pascal (2nd Deputy Mayor), Ms MAYO Esther (3rd Deputy Mayor), and Mr FAHA Bernard (4th Deputy Mayor).
Bafoussam II Council covers an area a little more than 219.3 km². It is limited to the West by the Bafoussam III Council, to the North by the Mbouda Council, to the South by Bafoussam I Council, and to the East by the Foumbot Council.
